He has a very good tiebreak - currently 12th overall, 5th out of over 30 players on 7 points. A draw may be enough but will depend on other results.

I believe David's opponent was immortalised in song by the Camptown Ladies.

Secures World Cup qualification for Howell & Duda & keeps them both above 2700.

So far so good for Gawain. He has a decent lead on the clock and typical White small edge?

I wouldn't be certain enough to risk it; as we said before the start, 8 will qualify and 7.5 will have some qualifiers and some not

The presence of those I listed who have already qualified makes it complicated to work out

Gawain seemed to be proceeding on the basis of cautious probing and watching Black's time run low. Now Black has embarked on a desperation attack and is down to two minutes.

Unfortunately Gawain seems to have missed a possible win in the complications and opponent's time trouble. Maybe the engine recommendation looked too scary or was flawed. Now he has to try to draw an ending the exchange down.

1st= Matlakov, Jobava & Fedoseev 8.5/11.
4th-14th= David 8.
15th-38th= Gawain among the score group on 7.5.

Boards 27 still going which could produce another 7.5.

Final rankings here: http://chess-results.com/tnr280959.aspx ... =30&wi=984

Gawain listed as 17th so hopefully that means he's qualified. I'm not sure if the chess-results ranking matches the relevant tie-break but let's hope so.

I expect that sequence is correct.

I have checked the names against
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_Wor ... tion_paths

which lists those already qualified, and if so everybody to Yilmaz on the chess-results order is in the World Cup. He gets the 22nd place.
A few players on 7.5 miss out, starting with Riazantsev,

They are usually first in the queue if substitutions are needed or as wild cards.

Well, we know the top 14 have qualified on 8+ points, but 3 of them had already qualified, so that leaves another 11 places

OK, let's go with Gawain qualifies to join David and Mickey; have we had 3 qualifiers before?

Are you sure? Matlakov is listed as qualifying from this event (E17)
