2017 European Ind Ch 29 May - 11 June (Minsk)
The 2017 European Individual Championships are due to start in a couple of weeks time in Minsk, Belarus. Should as usual be a very strong event but no line up has been announced just yet. What we do know is that it is a qualification event for the next World Cup. According to FIDE regulations and the decision of the ECU Board, 22 players will qualify. In case of equal score the qualification will be determined according to article 6.

Yes, David Howell would need to get in the top 22 who aren't already qualifiedChris Rice wrote:What we do know is that it is a qualification event for the next World Cup. Gawain is playing, but may be already qualified via the ACP route; standings; it depends if Ivanchuk is already qualified by rating, let's hope so
Not quite clear from WC qualifiers though Mickey Adams is on the list

Good grief, anyone qualifying via this tournament will certainly have earned it.

Yes, 7.5 points went down to 26th last time i.e. you needed 8 points, or a good tiebreak with 7.5 points, to get the 23 places on offer thenChris Rice wrote:Good grief, anyone qualifying via this tournament will certainly have earned it.

Yes, Fernandes (2468) is on bottom board, but Kharchenko (2468) is on top board v Navara; alphabetical order I assumeChris Rice wrote:First round starts at 1.30pm (BST). It's a bit tasty, this event, with a 2468 on Board 197:

Meanwhile Basso-Korobov is the highest board (17) to see an upset so far.
