Stephen certainly didn't waste any effort this morning.

Draws on the top two boards. He can be very happy with a 2600+ performance and (barring a white win on board 3) a share of second place.

We don't see much about Stephen Gordon these days in tournaments and leagues. Is he gainfully employed outside of chess, or working as a coach?

He has a full time (non chess) job and had to miss the last 4NCL weekend because of exams. He remains a very strong and difficult to beat GM despite having less time to play and study.

Looks like Cuenca Jimenez is giving it his best shot.

By the way, is that 8.30pm start time really correct? I know it says that on the website, but still seems very odd.

That's not unusual for Spanish tournaments. The Calvia Festival in October which has attracted some British players has 8 pm round times. They even play to a move rate of 40 in 90 plus an extra 15, with 30 second increments.

From what I remember the majority of players on Majorca are amateur players, so having 8:30pm starts means they don't have to worry about time off work; most places are within an hour drive from Palma vicinity

An excellent result for Jovanka beating a 2545 GM to round off a good performance and an added bonus of finishing as top female player.
