Well I'm of the school that believes Swiss systems have the following objectives:

(1) To find a winner
(2) To give all competitors the full complement of games (or almost).

(2) is always achieved
(1) is normally achieved if there are sufficient rounds given the number of players.

Pairing innuendos fall into insignificance unless you are worried about runners up - in which case Swiss pairing is inappropriate.

[Edit Sorry Richard, missed your post when writing this 'cos it was on a new page: I second the call for some more chess]

When I try to get the live commentary, I keep getting adverts and live Play Station. is there any way to get rid of these ?

Tiger Modern v 150 Attack no less !

That's from chessbomb, whose stockfish thinks White has an advantage equivalent to just under a pawn. So that's two pawns of compensation for one pawn sacrificed.

I like this for Black considerably less than the engine does. It is exactly this line with the e6 sac and ...Nf8 that made me think I didn't want to follow T HP's advice against 4 Be3.

Hammer seems to think Magnus is OK, mind

I think I'd rather have black in that position, actually. It looks odd, but is may be hard for white to actually find a way through.

I'm getting a bit worried about Eugene's clock.

I don't understand this position at all. Or the progress of the game.

[UPDATE:} that was at the point the queens came off. Now - with Black’s rooks on the h-file - I can finally grasp a little something about what’s going on. Hammer thinks Carlsen’s going to win now.

A drawn game is not always a dull game.

A cute tactic to finish this one off:

Have to ride your luck to overcome this field as Carlsen just proved.

Are you on chess24? That should work. Or try logging in to Twitch.

Nigel Short, at 52, has become the oldest player ever to enter the 2700 club https://twitter.com/chess24com/status/9 ... 6799505409

Korchnoi would have done it older than that given today's rating inflation I would have thought?
