England narrowly missed out by virtue of only drawing with Peru in the last round at Baku Olympiad 2016. They would have qualified had they won that match.Mick Norris wrote:You have to qualify for this one, from what I remember

Russia have allegedly dropped two of their players (Jakovenko & Inarkiev) and replaced them with the gold and bronze medallist winners from the European Individual.

Allegedly?
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a QR code stamped on a human face — forever.

Thanks. I generally prefer to avoid that, but not everything he says is untrue.LawrenceCooper wrote:Info from another Emil Sutovsky thread on Facebook.

The allegedly referred more to the reasons for the change as it's not known if the demoted players had any inkling of a potential change being made.NickFaulks wrote:Thanks. According to Sutovsky on another FB thread both the Egyptian Open and women's teams have dropped out though that's not reflected on the official web site yet. http://chess.ugramegasport.ru/teams/ http://chess.ugramegasport.ru/teams-women-s-section/

An hour long documentary of the opening ceremony. I managed to watch about three minutes. Apparently you can "maximise" and go to 4:25 min for the unusual drawing of colours, and to 39 minutes for really exciting, exotic stuff. http://en.chessbase.com/post/fide-world ... ips-opened
FIDE World Team Championship Rd 1 Pairings
Egypt have managed to get a team in though its very weak and they should get crushed by Russia. India v Poland looks like the best match to follow today.
