Yu, Yangyi v Grischuk

This one is not going the Chinese way. Instructive Black win in game four has an instructive master v pupil quality about it, very rarely seen at this level.

It has certainly livened up since two perfunctory draws initially.

So 3-1 to Grischuk in the 4 game match. In the Chess24 report Jan Gustafsson agrees that the final two encounters were "“played in the style of the old masters, just showing great strategic play”. Grischuk showed great technique in the rook ending in Game 3 and Game 4 was a really interesting Anti-Berlin.

Grischuk, 11 in the world at the moment, stayed on in China to play round 8 of the Chinese League and his opponent was the world number 10, Ding Liren. The game was drawn.
