National Girls Chess Championship qualifier at Ockbrook Girls School Ockbrook Derbyshire June 12th 2011

Website with some photos and games from today's event which I visited earlier. The event was organised and run by Sabrina with Jovanka providing coaching and David Bentley providing the website coverage. It was a great event to visit and I hope the events continue to grow into an established part of the chess calendar.

Good to see at least three girls from Oxfordshire playing (though I will have to have words with them about the quality of the games!). I decided it was just too far to take my daughter. Do you happen to have any details of who qualified?

Not yet, I expect results will appear on Sabrina's website later. I spent a fair bit of time watching Jovanka coaching and came away feeling really positive about the whole day and how good it was to see girls starting out in chess getting the chance to analyse with our leading active female player and so clearly enjoying the playing and coaching.

Thanks Loz - a report will be put up shortly! The girls were great today - superb attitude and it was a pleasure to run.

We are looking forward to the finals on the 2nd July and also for the English Women's Rapidplay
