We are running a new event - the English Women's Rapidplay on Saturday 2nd July at St. Paul's Girls' School, Hammersmith, alongside the finals for the National Girls' Chess Championships.

We hope this event will really kick off and turn into something big.

One of our aims has been to try and raise the profile of women's chess and to bring more events so that women play more and enjoy the game more.

The event is a normal 6-round swiss, but the prize money is a lot more than those of the regular rapidplays in London so as to try and make the event more attractive. We hope to increase this prize fund further over the years. A national title will also be given to the winner.

This event is open to all females of any age and standard. Women who are not from England (i.e. they do not represent England for chess) can also play in the competition, but are not eligible for the title. They can, however, win the prize money!

There is also FREE coaching from WGM Harriet Hunt who will be at the tournament for the full day. We are all very grateful that Harriet is coming to this event to support women's chess.

We hope that people will also come to watch this event.

The entry form is attached below. Let's hope that we can get our strongest women out and playing.

In "We are running a new event", is "we" the English Chess Federation?

EDIT: Ignore me! :) I just found the bit on the ECF website:

This is not fair.

You don't see 'Men Only' tournaments with Women barred.
I think the boys should be allowed in and given free entry.

;)

Good Luck with the event mate. Hope it's a success.

We do encourage spectators - so feel free to drop in. Sarah Hegarty might even be coming!!
