The Apple II (Europlus) was the very first computer I ever used... twin disks though, and a Pascal card!

Re: Kids react to old computers
I first used an IBM System/360/65 to run a very trivial program using a Monte Carlo style algorithm to simulate physisorption onto graphite.
The 360 lived at the University College London Computer Centre.
Submitting a batch job required walking from Gordon Street to the centre and depositing a card deck with a technician.
The job cards were wrapped in two thick pieces of card held together with a rubber band or two.
A major event and expense was the upgrade of the core memory by 1 Mb in around 1979.
It cost around £1 per byte.
I believe it was replaced by an ICL 1900 running George as an OS.

I remember the excitement at our school when our teletype link to the Sunderland Polytechnic computer was replaced by the earliest Commodore Pet PCs.
I believe the casing was made from salvaged Tiger tanks.
