Re: The English Language
I mean 'bold'.The book seems to mean 'hold' and misprinted 'bold'. My question is about 'destroy' though.

Try looking up euthanasia for help with understanding that particular meaning. Not that it's the meaning you want for the text.soheil_hooshdaran wrote:I am confused by this definition, Jack:

It's preventing it from moving closer and/or causing black problems.

Re: The English Language
Not really. Its more something like 'at a safe distance' or just away.
At times there's quite a real implication of some sort of threat to the person being held at bay - included. Like prey being cornered after a hunt. Could apply in a chess context, might not.

Re: The English Language
It may be obvious, but just in case:
Weiss is the German for white. Google seems to think it is the name of a player!
[Edit: Google is perhaps confused because in German all nouns start with a capital letter, not just names. As 'white' is usually an adjective it may not also be in Google's German dictionary as a noun]

Re: The English Language
If you spell the word properly with a scharfes s - Weiß - Google then correctly translates it as "white".Michael Farthing wrote:It may be obvious, but just in case:
