Week 21 report

"It was that game that put the Everton ship back on the road." - Alan Green Ok it was 0-0!

Changes in the top five teams are at a premium. A few points gained or lost - but whilst the top three are still hunky dory, Robert Ashworth finds himself under pressure now from the pack outside the leading scores. The week was highlighted by low points as once again key players failed to add to their totals, a fact highlighted by Paul Spiller who was top scorer with 57 points; Dominic Rabbitte on a lowly 16 points.

1 ARM and Hammers Mark Leonard 46 1,214
2 Barca Loner James Friar 33 1,203
3 Obi-Wan Kenobi Nil Jono Graham 38 1,192
4 Rash Rangers Robert Ashworth 23 1,149
5 Cleverley Dunne Son Gareth Yeo 28 1,149

There is no separate piece on the Cup this week, as our heroes suffered a reality check from their opponents. Of the four teams remaining only Kevin Williamson's "Beginners Pluck" remains.

Finally for you Arsenal Addicts a couple of appropriate team names SavedbytheBellerin or more likely Blame it on the Debuchy.

I think I counted seven hidden references there. I'd award you a gold star, but this week's colour seems to be black.

Week 22 Report

"Berahino hasn't been the best player on the pitch but he's my man of the match" - Owen Hargreaves. Transfer window open!

Firstly a quick heads-up to Ian Kingston - clearly I expected some comment the next day, but with sorrow you seemed to be the only one to notice.

Anyway the disasters continue with those teams relying on the likes of Mahrez, Lukaku, Ozil must be very disappointed.

1 ARM and Hammers Mark Leonard 43 1,257
2 Barca Loner James Friar 45 1,248
3 Obi-Wan Kenobi Nil Jono Graham 44 1,236
4 Cleverley Dunne Son Gareth Yeo 72 1,221
5 Rash Rangers Robert Ashworth 56 1,205

Top scorer of the week was for a second week the rejuvenated Paul Spiller with 74 points whilst Henrik Hoffman's One legged men scored just 19 points to put them in 3,607,996th place for the week. Blame it not on the boogie or indeed the Debuchy but the team of Ozil, Lukaku, Mahrez, Lloris, and so on!

Couple of Team names for Stoke fans Crouch Potatoes or maybe But-Land of Hope & Glory

Week 23 Report

“Sandro’s holding his face. You can tell from that it’s a knee injury.” Dion Dublin Transfer Window closed!

1. ARM and Hammers Mark Leonard 63 1,320
2 Barca Loner James Friar 41 1,289
3 Obi-Wan Kenobi Nil Jono Graham 41 1,277
4 Cleverley Dunne Son Gareth Yeo 56 1,277
5 Peregrinewellies Barry Redburn 64 1,265

After 17 successive weeks we've lost one-time leader Robert Ashworth to be replaced by Barry Redburn. I saw Barry at the Nottingham Rapidplay on Sunday and he hopes to be moving on up with his Spurs based team! Can he keep his position? Jono Graham, there since Week 1 must be at risk now.
Top scorer was another ex-leader Jim Friar with 74 points and lowest of the low was 19 point Harry Grieve. News from the bottom of the League as well - at last Rob Ensor vacates Position 67 replaced by Sam Herring.

Team names this week for Leicester supporters reflecting their position I Kante believe it or possibly youcanthandletheHuth?

Week 24 Report

"In terms of the Richter Scale this defeat was a force eight gale." - Radio 5 Live Report

1 Barca Loner James Friar 90 1,379
2 ARM and Hammers Mark Leonard 58 1,378
3 Peregrinewellies Barry Redburn 95 1,360
4 Rash Rangers Robert Ashworth 85 1,347
5 Obi-Wan Kenobi Nil Jono Graham 66 1,343

Gareth Yeo changed his team name to Bacuna-Mata-Ta and has been punished by demotion outside the Top 5. Robert Ashworth's disappearance was temporary as Rash Rangers return. This was a week of super-scores with Bob Taylor hitting the 100 point mark; it goes without saying that Harry Grieve is again low scorer. The perils of entering a team then forgetting about it is shown by Harry's decline - in Week 2 YOLO was in position 36,719; by Week 24 YOLO has reached position 2,795,196 - only once in the last 17 weeks has the team improved it's position.

I haven't forgotten the Cup - just to note that our last representative, Kevin Williamson, was k.o'd in Week 22.

Finally another long manager name for the pairing cards Abdul Hakem Adha Che Hassan

Week 25 report

"England now have three fresh men, with three fresh legs." Jimmy Hill. Celebration held at Coventry Cathedral today.

1 ARM and Hammers Mark Leonard 76 1,454
2 Barca Loner James Friar 67 1,446
3 Peregrinewellies Barry Redburn 70 1,430
4 Bacuna-Mata-Ta Gareth Yeo 80 1,422
5 Obi-Wan Kenobi Nil Jono Graham 70 1,413

The top eight teams look to be those still in the hunt - can anyone join them? Gareth Yeo is back this week with his new team name. Jonathan Tait with 87 points was the week's top scorer - we've got to the point now where we might mention anyone other than Harry Grieve who was the low scorer yet again with 22 points. Lawrence Cooper left Robert Huth on the bench - in Week 15 I left Mahrez as a substitute in a week where he scored 21 points. I'll be on the lookout for other daft decisions in future weeks.

For the Villa fans a couple of team names HuttondressedasLahm or maybe delphinately staying up?

Week 26 Report

"I am a mountain goat that keeps going and going and going, I cannot be stopped, I just keep going." Sepp Blatter.
Perhaps he's gone this time!

1 ARM and Hammers Mark Leonard 52 1,506
2 Barca Loner James Friar 54 1,500
3 Bacuna-Mata-Ta Gareth Yeo 63 1,485
4 Peregrinewellies Barry Redburn 35 1,465
5 El Saalys FC Mike Swanwick 50 1,457

Well there you are! After 25 consecutive weeks in the Top Five it's goodbye to Obi-Wan Kenobi Nil and Jono Graham. Will the force be with him for a swift return or not? Meanwhile whilst the Graham family fortunes may be in decline, there is some good news for the Redburns with James Redburn top scorer with 72 points more than doubling the total of 35 achieved by his father who drops to fourth place. Little change at the top but are the first and second place teams slightly pulling away? No need to report on the low scorer - same as it ever was - clearly on the Road to Nowhere.

Finally a quick note about our team of the week Barcafellova. They get a mention as with 12 weeks to go they head the 3,688,126 teams entered with a grand total of 1636 points. Can they hold out till Week 38?

Week 27 Report

A very swift report this time - someone has shoehorned an extra midweek set of fixtures in only two days after Week 27 finished. A more comprehensive update next time!

1 ARM and Hammers Mark Leonard 63 1,569
2 Barca Loner James Friar 41 1,541
3 Bacuna-Mata-Ta Gareth Yeo 56 1,541
4 Peregrinewellies Barry Redburn 41 1,502
5 El Saalys FC Mike Swanwick 41 1,498

The top five are unchanged. Top scorer was Nathan Talbot with a magnificent 70 points; low scorer was Akmal Lathif with a miserly 8 points due almost completely to his team depending on players involved in the League Cup.

Week 28 Report

Quick explanation of West Brom's defence system "They are now playing with a five-man back four." Alan McInally

So here are last week's top performers :- Steve Cooke (Bournemouth) 15 points; Ramires Funes Mori (Everton) 14 points; Adam Lallana (Liverpool) 14 points; Andy King (Leicester) 13 points; Connor Wickham (Palace) 13 points. They were owned by 0.9%; 0.5%; 0.6%; 0.3% and 0.5% of managers respectively which probably explains the low scoring for the vast majority of managers who thought that maybe Kane, Aguero, Kompany and so on were better bets. Did any manager here actually own any of the above?

1 ARM and Hammers Mark Leonard 37 1,606
2 Bacuna-Mata-Ta Gareth Yeo 39 1,580
3 Barca Loner James Friar 30 1,571
4 Rash Rangers Robert Ashworth 33 1,530
5 Peregrinewellies Barry Redburn 27 1,529

A few movements at the top - Robert Ashworth back after a three week disappearance. High Scorer was Alan Tate's "I Give Up" - clearly he hasn't ! Low Scorer was Jim Friar - the one time leader couldn't find anyone in his team to score over 2 - result 21 points.

Team name of the week Liverpool supporters might like Flying without Ings

Week 29 Report

"You live and die by results, I asked to be judged on that and people have." - Steve McClaren

So The End for McClaren, clearly a nowhere man where Newcastle were concerned but to get back on topic here are last week's top five.

1 ARM and Hammers Mark Leonard 86 1,692
2 Bacuna-Mata-Ta Gareth Yeo 75 1,655
3 Barca Loner James Friar 63 1,634
4 Rash Rangers Robert Ashworth 88 1,618
5 Peregrinewellies Barry Redburn 66 1,595

In a high scoring week Mark Leonard is flying at the top of the League and his rivals will certainly require something to bridge the gap. What goes on with top scorer Richard Pert? His 89 points means a late challenge for honours. Tell me why I haven't mentioned Harry Grieve - well his 31 points was yet another low score. I should have known better than to write off Rob Ensor - because he now overtakes Harry with the help of the team changes he mentioned here a few weeks ago.

Anyway I'm down now to the team name of the week - but with news received yesterday, I've changed this week's report to reflect a recent death.

Third Quarter Report

This covers Weeks 21-29. Only seven teams contested the top five places and Mark Leonard is now outpacing his rivals. After 25 weeks we lost long-time leader Jono Graham; Gareth Yeo changed his team name and he is now looking to be the main challenger as we reach the last nine weeks of the season.

Scoring system 5 points for 1st place, 4 for second etc - number of weeks in top five in brackets

1 (9) ARM and Hammers Mark Leonard 44 pts
2 (9) Barca Loner James Friar 35 pts
3 (8) Bacuna-Mata-Ta Gareth Yeo 21 pts
4 (7) Peregrinewellies Barry Redburn 13 pts
5 (5) Obi-Wan Kenobi Nil Jono Graham 11 pts
6 (5) Rash Rangers Robert Ashworth 9 pts
7 (2) El Saalys FC Mike Swanwick 2 pts

Week 30 report

"When they don’t score they hardly ever win." - Michael Owen. More punditry from the BT expert!

1 ARM and Hammers Mark Leonard 59 1,751
2 Bacuna-Mata-Ta Gareth Yeo 67 1,722
3 Rash Rangers Robert Ashworth 72 1,690
4 Barca Loner James Friar 39 1,673
5 Peregrinewellies Barry Redburn 65 1,660

Top five remain the same with a slight shuffle. Congratulations to 85 point scorer Lawrence Cooper our number one of the week plus an honourable mention to Rob Ensor on 82 points. Shame Lawrence's Wengerboys couldn't emulate his success in the Champions League. Meanwhile at the foot of the table Sam Herring managed a mediocre 7pts - his team is the only one still in three figures - just the 771 points needed to catch the League Leader.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp faces his old club Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League quarter-final so we sign off with Liverpool team names of the week Klopp of the League or possibly Snap Crackle Klopp.

PS - the Week 29 report contained a number of Beatles titles to reflect the death of Sir George Martin. Did you find them all?
