Now you're pointing the finger at me, Michael.

But, I think it is alright since I used circular English and not classical Arabic or even Farsi.

How many times have you emailed Everyman Chess?

I haven't paid too much attention to this saga (and I may regret getting involved now), but I think it involves some or all of the following:

Translating a book into Farsi
Printing said book.
Publishing said book.
Selling said book.

Who made the original approach to Everyman? Or did they approach you?

I was playing at Playchess.com then and I knew GM Seirawan lectured there. So I asked for the email of GM Seirawan from chessbase staff:

Dear sir/madam...

Hello.I am translating a book of GM Yasser Seirawan and need to contact him.How can I accomplish that? When will GM Seirawan appear on the playchess server?

yours faithfully
I emailed GM Seirawan and he said his editorial manager is the guy at the Everyman chess.
Then the guy at EverymanChess emailed me:

Dear Mr Houshdaran,

I understand from Yasser Seirawan that you are interested in translating his series of books into Farsi.

I can certainly sell you the rights to the series, but before you begin any work we have to agree a fee and sign a contract. It is illegal for you to publish the books without my written permission. If you do you will be breaking the law.

Please correspond with myself on this matter, and not Yasser Seirawan.

Yours faithfully

40-50, over a period of 5 years, but many of my questions was about what should I do with some pictures and photo, with indices and matters unrelated o the contract itself
They gave me than bank account, and an address to send a copy to.

40-50 doesn't look excessive in itself, unless they were about trivia or most of them were latterly.

I know next to nothing about publishing but 4-5 years seems like a long time to spend on a small project.

It seems that you have done something to incur the publisher's displeasure.

When was the contract signed?

Sadly, it was never signed. We reached a 10% financial term via email, but the contract was not updated with it, and when I asked that if it needs to be signed, he sends me a new updated contract, he refused to do so.
But I created a new contract and posted that to him, setting the payment time 1 year after the first printing , rather than the date of the sign of the contract, which would be months later. :)

I have finished my university just 30-swome days ago, and I was studying BS, and then for Master's exam, and then Master's, and was doing other works too.

And my translation is distinct from other works.

It sounds as if Everyman got cold feet. I'm surprised that they didn't make it clear to you that the deal was off. Making up your own contract (unless you got a lawyer involved) doesn't sound like behaviour calculated to endear yourself to a publisher.

Moderators,

Could you please change "can't" in the title to "don't"?

Cheers,
Victor
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Well, they advised me on a law forum to draw up a new contract. I nevertheless showed both the old and the new contract to a registered lawyer and he said they don't want to deceive you and the terms are common. I only made a few changes, especially with regards to payment, we agreed on a different term via email, and as I consulted to someone over the internet, Emails are substitutes for agreements, right?

He also told me that they could not cancel the deal one-sidedly, though he said I understood they cancelled it, but had I known they can't, I would never accept their cancellation.

Cheers,
Changing the topic title won't alter the title of already posted individual posts. The title of future posts can be done by individuals themselves, as here we see.
