The Grand National

Post by Joey Stewart » Sat Apr 09, 2016 10:40 am

I thought that, since there are a lot of gamblers on the forum, it would be a good idea to pre emotively make a page for them to report their successes in this race of all races.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

And perhaps share their tips before the race? Or is there no point in looking past Many Clouds?

PS I love the typo "pre emotively". If "o" and "p" weren't next to each other on the keyboard I would have thought it was a clever, deliberate malapropism.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

I'm surprised that no-one mentioned the English Chess Handicap being run at Aintree - I have a list of starters with some details

1) FillAir Fillibuster - beaten last time out by None of the Above - won't go the distance
2) Yorkshire Grading List - well fancied in its home county but useless elsewhere; no threat in Lancashire
3) Grouchy Grandmaster - local thoroughbred - will only go over a short course.
4) Membership Scheme - ridden once again by jockey R.de Coverley; faller at every hurdle
5) Past President - wearing the pink silk with matching T-Shirt.
6) Giri's Gallop - well positioned in any draw; in fact every draw
7) Senior Arbiter - carrying extra weight and a poor runner but will finish.
8 - 4NCL Venue - winner at Birmingham, Telford and Wakefield this year. Firm favourite with jockey M.Truran.
9) Kirshan's Versions - foreign hopeful, never beaten, sire Third World out of Multiple Bribes.

Please note the late withdrawal of e2e4 as handicap entry fee not paid.

Some very sharp lines for the tactical player there.
