Is it copyright infringement?

Hi.
I published my translation of Play Winning Chess. Some reach person paid me the price of several copies and told me to give them to the needy. Since I could not easily find the needy, I consulted someone and he told me to give some copies to the association to put them in a shelf so that people-reach or needy- can borrow them. Have I breeched the copyright?

No. Copyright law relates only to the production of extra copies of a piece of intellectual property, not the distribution of those copies.

(I assume here you are talking of physical printed copies of a book.)

So whatever I do with the few remaining copies won't be infringement to any law?

Hi.
I have translated a chess book. The publisher of the original work demanded me a percent of the sold copies. I gifted some copies and some copies went un-recorded. Do I pay the royalties for them too?

Consult a lawyer. We are not a lawyer, we are a chess forum.

What lawyer?
I think I already mentioned that in Iran international copyright is not normally observed

I imagine this will be covered in the contract. I would suspect that an author would be entitled to a small number of free copies of their book, to be distributed as they wished. I cannot believe that it would be permitted that an author give away thousands of copies for nothing (perhaps receiving in return sums of money closely resembling the retail price as a "gift").

Similarly, I'm not sure a contract would permit rights to be passed on to a publisher not specified in the contract, allowing them to profit at the original copyright holder's expense.

Thanks for your attention sir.
Maybe I need to explain it again more vividly:
I leave in a country which never entered Berne convention (regarding copyright) and has a Intellectual Property protection law only for Iranian wrk-producers(I relatively recently was informed that a foreign author can also be protected via contract)
So, I am not concerned about my relation with an Iranian publisher. I am concerned about my relations with the publisher of the original English work.

And did you see my answer to that:

I sought such lawyers for almost a year. I still am, but I am not very hopeful

What if I buy the rights to the original book and then translate from the English version, since I don't know Greek or Spanish or French or German or ...? Is it copyright infringement?
