With just about 24hours before the big Premier Chess Fantasy Football League kick-off there's 51 entries, only Ken Morrison from last season's top team is missing. The holder of the Plastic Fork (a trophy that alluded Sir Alex Ferguson throughout his career), Richard Dineley, is back for more, but no sign yet of Woodenspoonist Chris Cantrill making a return.

We have two possible interlopers. Roger L and Darren J. They have not given their full names and our President, Chairman and Secretary, Neil Graham, may wish to take action to expel them.

I'm pretty optimistic about my team. Thomas Vermaelen and Chico Florres amongst my defenders, Javi Garcia and Alexsander Tonev in midfield, Stephen Dobbie and Billy Sharp up front. Going to be a good season.

“In the last year, 46 of the 92 managers have lost their jobs – that’s over half.” David Pleat

HEADLINES: WEEK 1

First week champagne is awarded to Tom Ensor with a splendid 71. Rob finished in 59th place last season, so maybe he’s getting the hang of this?

Last year’s big three, Richard Beach, Alan Tate and Grant Bucher start in 34th, 9th and 45th positions respectively. Still early days.

At the bottom some familiar names, but it’s Daniel Lambourne who takes the early bubbles in the bath with a smelly 23.

Last year’s weakest link Chris Cantril is a non-runner this year, but plastic fork winner Richard Dineley starts in a magnificent 12th place.

Ben Edgell begins with a perfect zero. But we’re wondering if anyone cares?

Two Managers who have failed to name themselves, Roger L and Darren J. Unless they come forward with their full names I suggest our host ejects them.

HEADLINES: WEEK 2

Another super weekend for Rob Ensor keeps him clear of the pack led by Phil Makepeace and young Harry Grieve.

This week’s top dog is Grant Bucher’s Turner and Huth with a lip smacking 69.

The owner of the tapeworm is poor old Ihor Lewyk with an indigestible 19.

Daniel Lambourne and Hendrik Hoffman fill the bottom two places, but there's still plenty of time to recover.

Darren J and Roger L are excluded until they either identify themselves, or our sponsor throws them out (Where are you Mr Graham?).

I have had several pressing family matters to deal with - I am now starting to sort out chess matters again and I will include the two players in the League David. They are both members of other non-connected Leagues which may have different rules to ours!

WEEK 3 HEADLINES

A new name at the top. John Reyes jumps from ninth to first, clear of Rob Ensor and Phil Makepeace.

John Reyes’ first place is gained by a thumping 86 - on the downside he seems to have chosen Partick Thistle’s colours. Hmmmm!

Jim Friar’s belly up go belly-up with two little lavi-ducks - twenty-two.

At the rear end Hendrik Hoffmann and Daniel Lambourne aren’t getting any better.

WEEK 4: HEADLINES

John Reyes hangs on to top spot as Peter Musgrove, Phil Makepeace and Alan Tate close in.

Lawrence Cooper celebrates a magnificent 86 which takes his Wenger boys up to fifth.

A family who are no strangers to two the little toilet ducks - twenty-two - this time it’s Joe Friar.

At this rate Daniel Lambourne will be getting a mention every week until the end of the season - he’s now 18 points behind his nearest rival Hendrik Hoffman.

Two new teams have joined in Week 4 Richard Weaving comes in at 31, while Adrian Matthews pops up at 54.

WEEK 5 HEADLINES

Peter Musgrove’s Mussie’s Mates take over at the top with Robert Ashworth’s Rash Rangers slipstreaming into second. John Reyes who has been on top for the last two weeks slips to third.

You need to look further down the list to this week’s top scorer as Rhys Cumming makes a 73 and moves up from 49th to 20th.

A few rotten scores this week but none rottener that Ken Wood’s smelly 17.

Sitting at the bottom it’s Daniel Lambourne’s Pebworth Linos, still. Hendrik Hoffman is replaced in the plastic fork position by Ken Wood. It’s been coming!

WEEK 6: HEADLINES

No change among the top three but Peter Musgrove’s lead at the top is narrowed down to three points over Robert Ashworth.

In a low scoring week Simon Brown comes up with the top score of 58 points and moves up 12 places.

Not far behind, but in last place, is Dave Ledger with a Jeyes Bloo 26.

Big surprise at the bottom as Daniel Lambourne hits a 56 and leaves last place to Ken Wood(enspoon).

It is a big surprise considering I played my wild card two weeks ago, and I was still scoring poorly.

I was thinking I was doomed to picking good but lazy players this year who stopped playing the moment I picked them, but finally some of them woke up.

Of course give my team time, and they could soon be back down the bottom.

WEEK 7: HEADLINES

He’s back! John Reyes led for weeks 3 and 4, but had dropped to third, now he returns to the number one spot with Peter Musgrove and Robert Ashworth having to moving over.

Lots of scores in the seventies, the best of them a 77 by Richard Dineley, last season’s plastic fork man who's turned things around for the Chosen Ones.

This week’s supply of laxatives goes to Hendrik Hoffman with a crappy 26, which leaves him in the do-do one place above the bottom 2.

At the rear end it’s still Ken Wood who’s joined by Matthew Payne as Daniel Lambourne steers clear of trouble.

Hurrah! It's another international week coming up. See you in a fortnight.

Hmmmm!

It the Colour of Roy of the Rovers Mate

Love it when I was a kid!!

Roy of the Rovers?? At least Melchester Rovers didn't try to take over an ailing Football League side and give them a silly name! Roll on Hull Tigers!

WEEK 9: HEADLINES

What a week! Big scores and the first major shift of the season. John Garnett dances from fourth to first, while John Reyes goes in reverse from first to fourth. Robert Ashworth and Peter Musgrove do the tango swapping second and third places.

But it’s the super century-maker Barry Redburn whose wonder score of 112 really catches the eye, moving up to sixth from 35th.

There’s no chance Phil Makepeace's miserable 18 can eliminate this week’s toilet bowl oder.

At the foot of the table Ken Wood scores a decent 64 that relegates Matthew Payne to last place.

Ben Edgell has gone finishing! A 'polished' performance with none of his players playing in the Premiership.
