A county will indeed not know how many of its teams will qualify. But no-one is obliged to accept nomination.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. I too see the problem as being within the counties concerned.

Yes, despite the way the tables were laid out - worst seating ever for me at a county match
You get some idea form the photos here:

Presumably it's a school dining room. Those stools have two seats each? Is it a bit uncomfortable playing for four hours without a back to your chair.

Yes it was, and it was 5 hours not 4
Fold up tables with the stools attached by metal bars, about a dozen stools per table, very awkward if you are over 18

For our county to beat a team from a county with as many players to choose from as Yorkshire is a great achievement, and shows what can be done with years of hard work from successive captains, and good junior training
We were 1 down with 4 to play, one of whom had lost a piece, another was lost (he nearly won), another had made the first time control with less than 20 seconds to spare - keeping calm, never giving up
Despite being denied the MCCU title, we won the one that mattered after a long unbeaten season at Newcastle-under-Lyme, Holmes Chapel, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Claybrooke Magna, Heywood, Water Orton and Leicester, a match a month since January
