G Man same as last year - Open in Division 2, and U160

We think the Open team will be stronger having gained 5 players from the U160, but the U160 will therefore be weaker

I's like to think the Open team might finally win a match, and maybe the U160 team can win the Midlands title (unlike last season, when we won the nationals instead)

I nearly managed to get someone to captain an U120 team, but starting a team from scratch is tough

Sounds like there was a transporter malfunction. Which one is evil?

Warwickshire hasn't officially entered anything yet.

The possibility of dropping down to the Minor was discussed, on the basis that the team's average has been below 180 when playing in the Open. The majority of feedback from the players was that they'd rather tough it out in the Open, so they're going to.

Warwickshire will probably enter every section, but their Secretary hasn't got around to filling in the form yet.

The MCCU web pages with the recently amended rules have now been linked with other pages on the MCCU website. You may need to click 'refresh' to see the new pages rather than any old ones stored in your computer. I have added the information I have received about team entries for 2012-13 season. Updates on this year's entries will be welcome.

Results of the three u140 matches held 1 Dec are now posted on the MCCU site. It is reported that Leics beat Warks in the u100, but there is a dispute about a player's eligibility and full results of this match will be published when they are available.

Congratulations to Notts on retaining their U160 title

Hard fought match yesterday, despite Notts having the stronger team on paper

Looks like we'll have to try and do it the hard way again

I'm playing for Staffordshire against Worcestershire on March 16th in the under 120 event! Wish me luck! My grade currently is 95.

I have also written an article on the subject for our chess club website. The article has been written mainly for our club members who are maybe new to the club and don't know much about the Staffordshire team.

What kind of teams are fielded in these events? Would you expect me to be outgraded by say up to 20 points as the opposition field a near enough to the limit strength of team as possible? (Although I believe I'm capable of winning any under 120 match anyway.)

I always thought playing for the county was something that you had to be selected for (similar to football players being selected for England for example!)

I also notice Staffordshire have no under 100 team. But some of the other counties (Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire do.) Is an under 100 team too low a limit? Or is it just right? Perhaps it gives new members of clubs, and junior players the opportunity to play in matches against similar players from other counties?

If you look here, you can see the table and results
http://www.mccu.org.uk/cm12-13/u120/u120.htm

If you click on the matches further down, you can see the players actually turning out for the counties e.g.
