Here is the last result in the U140 Section confirming Worcestershire as MCCU winners with a 100% record

The U180 match between Nottinghamshire & Warwickshire ended yet again in an 8-8 draw. Warwickshire just edged the match on Board Count by 37-39.
In a strange twist of fate the two players whose game had decided the tied match in the Under 160 met again yesterday and their game was again the last to finish. On both occasions Notts were leading by 8-7 and the Warwickshire player saved the match not once but now twice!

The final nomination in the U120 section will go to Worcestershire after they defeated a depleted Staffordshire yesterday.

Do we know exactly when the National stages draw will be published? The closing date for Union nominations is 24 March

Possibly if you post this in the Counties Championship section Andrew Zigmond might respond?

I know that it must be very difficult for the NCCU to sort out their myriad nominees - according to their website they have played just the one U160 match between Cumbria and Yorkshire mentioned previously and that was only over 12 boards. For the record Nottinghamshire have played 17 matches in the preliminaries and 224 separate boards.

I'd be surprised if Cumbria go forward to the national stages; they haven't found it easy to raise 16 players for a long trip even to a neutral venue

Not for a few days afterwards at least.

That deadline (it was previously 31 March) was not announced until the season was well underway. By the time of the announcement, an U160 match between Sussex and Kent had been arranged for 25 March. The SCCU have been granted a short extension to accommodate this.

Essex are the SCCU U160 Division champions - congratulations to them. Any two of Kent, Middlesex, Surrey and Sussex can still qualify, depending on the result of the Sussex v Kent match.

Apologies for the partial hijack of an MCCU thread.

Neil

Yorks beat Lancs on Sunday in both the Open and U160
Richard Palliser

My guess is that Lancs v Cumbria in the U160 hasn't happened

Or just not updated - the NCCU website isn't precisely prompt/up to date!

Good Yorkshire team in the Open though - me not being that near it I think - so maybe we'll manage 4 in a row despite the new captain.

Despite the new captain?

We had Mark Birkin in charge for the 3 years of straight wins, then he finally tired of it and they had to get someone else in. Never sure the team won't collapse when that happens :)

Kent do look quite determined to try and stop it at 3.....

Ok, so who have you got to replace Mark?

We have the same issue with county captains in G Man, of course; we discussed last night seeing if we could find a different approach to encourage county chess

Peter Ackley - iirc he's just moved into the area (Sheffieldish). Some very mild friction from appointing outside the team, but he got a good team to Bradford so clearly far from bad at it :)

Its why we don't have an U180 team though. Obviously no shortage of players!

Cumbria tell me they are waiting for Lancs to give them a date for the U160 match; they expect it to be next month

Next month is too late for nomination to the ECF stages.
