Asterisk added for "starting grades"

Post by Michael Bennett » Mon Feb 20, 2012 10:17 am

An update to the games lists today:

From the Help page:
In a previous-period list, ungraded players and juniors are shown with the "starting grade" which was actually used in calculating your grade.

These "starting grades" are now marked with an asterisk in the games lists.

Perhaps an explanation of how they work could be added to the FAQs.

Thanks Paul. There's some explanation on the Help page, I believe this was added yesterday:
http://www.ecfgrading.org.uk/help/#oppgrad

And we should be linking to it from the asterisks soon, for ease of reference.

If an adult or junior member played a junior, with a grade shown as *0 in the members record, does that mean that a negative figure would have been used in calculating the members grade. According to Alex Holowczak's recent posting it probably does. An opponent's negative figure for most adults would be zapped out by the 40 point rule but for members graded, or with "starting grades", (that's grader lingo), less than 40 it wont be.

These intermediate figures, which come out of the reiterative process, are referred to on the help pages as "starting grades" for the ungraded and juniors.

Smart display screens by the way.

Thank you.

In answer to your question, I'll leave Richard to answer officially of course, but as far as I know the negative grades are used in the calculation, and then set to zero for display.

I confirm.
