Might the above be termed a post-dated post?

There's something that looks like a recent development. Yorkshire (mostly) players who are not ECF members playing in events which are not ECF registered (ie those not paying Game Fee) now have their results shown in italics. The results in italics won't have been included in the grade calculations.

That's correct Roger. Thanks for mentioning it.

Idle curiosity, which I hope Michael or someone else may be able to satisfy; how does the database or site assign the primary team shown next to a player?

That's one for Richard, as it is set up in the main grading database he manages.

Clubs are listed in descending order of “activity”.

I’d better expand on that. By activity I mean the number of games you’ve played for the club in team events, plus the number of games you’ve played in its internal competitions.

If only it were so simple. Congresses come into it as well. Congresses don’t have to report your club, but they often do, and when one does your games in that congress will count toward the club’s activity. This is a bit arbitrary if you belong to three or four other clubs, and downright misleading if the club reported is one you haven’t belonged to in the last eight years. (This happens.) So activity counts aren’t entirely reliable.

To keep your list of clubs reasonably up to date, the system applies a cutoff. Clubs are shown only if they have appeared in your record in the last two or three years.

Bob - this is another one for Richard.

Bob Clark wrote:The latest list shows an amended version of [my] last published grade... It seems that a game played in June 11 and previously included in the calculation for the Jan 12 Grade has now disappeared. Is there a reason for this?
It's hard to pinpoint the reason without knowing which game it is, or which Bob Clark you are for that matter. But the culprit is probably a bug in the central program (nothing to do with Michael) which was spotted and corrected just after the June revision went live.

Don’t let’s continue this conversation here. As I've said this morning in another thread (http://www.ecforum.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4455), the Forum isn’t a good place for talking about detailed corrections. You can contact me direct if you want reassurance that the error has been corrected.

Michael

Would it be possible to separate 'inactive' players (zero games in last year) from 'ungraded but active' players (at least one game in last year, but not graded)? The former are probably no longer club members but the latter are. Alternatively, if this is too complicated, then an ability to sort by grading reference, which would help for schools but not clubs

Hi Neill - Richard manages the master grading database and so is the best person to address this question to, via the usual route of the grading database enquiry form.

Edit: have added a sort by grading reference to the list of club members as you suggested. Thanks!
