I assumed somebody else would post a comment on this, but they haven't, so...

A tournament with adjournments? Will that be rated?

See:

http://en.chessbase.com/post/wesley-so- ... en-classic

"Although adjournments are allowed in this event, there was just one occasion to seal a move – and the game was decided without continuation."

Also:

"This does not apply to the last round."

Nothing about whether the games will be rated, though.

The move rate is something of a hybrid
The rate of play is 150 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 60 minutes for the next 16 moves, followed by 15 minutes to finish the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move in the last period.
The 40 in 150 followed by adjournment and then 16 per hour is the rate used from the late 1940s until the mid 1980s. This was applied whenever five hour sessions were available, such as in the British Championship Congress afternoon events. For a period of a few years, starting after 1986, the rate was speeded up to be 40 in 120 minutes, but the session length was extended to six hours before adjournment.

Top players are perhaps used to the speed up from move 60 onwards, with the increment being added into the mix. The more traditional approach would have been to carry on at 16 moves an hour for ever, with periodic adjournments, but you need rest days in the timetable in case of a really long game.

I don't play any leagues where adjournment can be forced, but it makes sense, as the ACP have done, to be able to impose a maximum of two sessions by having a later quick-play finish or its increment equivalent.
