From the BCM archive I have unearthed a charming image of Richard and Stewart at work during the Philips and Drew tournament of 1984.

The promotional caption reads "Typewriters kindly loaned by Imperial Business Equipment Ltd."

That was Brighton 1977. Not 1980.

Agreed 1977 British as per Jim.
I was one of the "ten" but staying with my Yorkshire college A P Taglione in another flat. But we often played blitz at that place. The chicken incident, from Andrew, did happen that way. Jim was at the wrong place when Richard woke up.

I worked a lot with Richard on Bookstalls, bulletins, commentary etc. A frequently visitor to my house from Sussex (Peacehaven) to get a fast start from Waltham Abbey or from Bletchley to do bookstalls around the country on many weekends. I enjoyed his company.
RIP Richard.
