I am sorry to inform you that Gerry Whitehead passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday 21st November 2022.
Gerry first played chess for Eccles over 50 years ago.
He will be greatly missed, not just at Eccles Community Chess Club but across the congress circuit too.
The funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday 12th December 2022 at Eccles Crematorium in Peel Green Cemetery.
His passing was reported on the Manchester Chess Federation website in the News Category on Wednesday 7th December 2022.
There is a tribute along with a picture of Gerry.

The name rang a bell, but had to see the picture to recall Gerry - RIP, played him a few times at places like the Heywood congress and had a few chats with him when I saw him around, nice guy.
