The sad news has been reported that Romanian International Master Mihail-Viorel Ghinda passed away on 3rd February 2023, at the age of 73.
Mihail-Viorel was born on 25th July 1949 in Bucharest, Romania.
He played for Romania in the 1973 and 1977 European Team Chess Championships and then became an International Master in 1978.
He was four-times Romanian Chess Championship Winner (1976, 1978, 1983 and 1989), runner-up in 1980 and 3rd place (1970, 1975 and 1985).
Mihail-Viorel played for Romania in the Chess Olympiad between 1978 and 1990.
In 1985, he played for Romania in the World Team Chess Championship.

Met him in Netanya in 1987. A clever and likeable guy. And I´m surprised he never clocked up the GM title.
