Albert Vasse

Post by David Sedgwick » Thu Mar 09, 2023 3:47 pm

Earlier this afternoon I was deeply saddened to learn of the recent death of Albert Vasse.

He was the Co-founder of DGT and a distinguished International Arbiter with whom I had the pleasure of working at the London Chess Classic for nine years.

Rest in peace, my friend.

I met Albert at the 2012 and 2013 London Chess Classic and he was most charming.

Very sad news indeed.

Here is IA Albert Vasse from the 2013 event:

I remember Albert Vasse well from the London Chess Classics I attended. A sad loss. Condolences to his family and friends.

Some non-chess biographical info here:

https://www.chesstech.org/2023/albert-vasse-1958-2023/
He was regionally known as speaker of the victims of the explosion of a firework storage in Enschede and campaign manager for Groenlinks, the Dutch Green Party.

And a moving tribute and further details here (worth computer-translating from the Dutch to get the general gist):
