It is with great sadness that I have to report the recent passing away of Ian Hewitson.
Ian passed peacefully on 10th December 2023, aged 81 years.
He was a long term member of Windermere Chess Club, and a good, very well liked friend of many people.
Ian was also a friend of Poulton-le-Fylde Chess Club as he visited the club on a number of occasions. He played for Windermere against Poulton-le-Fylde in the annual challenge match arranged by Roy Ellames and David Phillips.
Ian played me on a least one occasion and commented how well organised our club was with a "fine display of entry forms for congresses."
His funeral took place on Tuesday 16th January at Beetham Hall Crematorium, Milnthorpe, Cumbria.
RIP

Re: Ian Hewitson
Windermere Chess Club is also sadly no more, though some of its former members are still playing for the Kendal teams (the irony is that back in the 1980s it was the other way round, with a burgeoning Windermere club putting Kendal out of business for a while)
