Tony West (Hagley CC, 1940-2024)

I learned that Tony West, former captain of Worcestershire correspondence team in the Brown Pond competition has passed away. The current team captain Jim Keene, wrote: "He was a team captain for the 2nd team Correspondence Chess for many years and assisted me in obtaining interested players. He only stopped playing ... [correspondence chess in 2014 when the county decided to enter one team instead of two] ... Always very helpful and enthusiastic and loved the game in both formats." Tony was also secretary and treasurer of Hagley Chess Club for several years until it closed in 2016. I undertsand the funeral is at Hagley on 29 February.
