Stuart Dean who has died at the age of 83 having been unwell for some time, was a member of both Cosham and Hamble (formerly Passed Pawn) chess clubs, having moved to the Portsmouth area during the 1970's. He was a regular player for the Hampshire county side, and also served the Hampshire Chess Association as both President and Treasurer.
He was also President of the Portsmouth Chess League for more than 20 years and in addition spent two years as President of the West of England Chess Union. He played to a high standard and was liked and respected by those who knew him, and will be sorely missed. His funeral will be held at Portchester on Tuesday 11th February at 1.30 p.m.
