On the 28th June 2014 John R White, Hammersmith Chess Club President/Chairman and Co-Founder passed away. In 1961 Hammersmith Council held a Chess Congress and from this Hammersmith Chess Club was founded in 1962.

John was one of 6 players to join and he has been a member since, taking on many roles for the club including Team Captain and Secretary.

In 2012 to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Club John was made President in appreciation of all his work for the club since 1962.

John had 3 loves in his life, these were his Wife and his Children and of course Hammersmith Chess Club.

John will be missed by all who knew him

RIP John. I played him a few years back at the Richmond Rapid , seemed a really nice guy. Saw him around after that and always had a smile.

Sad news. RIP and condolences to his family and those at Hammersmith Chess Club.
