From Leicestershire Chess Association
There is sad news of the death of Bob Veitch from the Syston club. Bob originally came from Merseyside with his job at British Telecom for whom he played at their excellent venue at their offices at 66 London Rd. When they closed as a chess club, he spent some years at Birstall before moving to Syston. Bob was the main organiser of correspondence chess for Leicestershire and the MCCU, his efficient organising helped Leicestershire run two county sides and the MCCU run an individual championship and a team tournament. For many years Bob was the compiler of the names of those with voting rights at BCF/ECF Council meeting and assisted with the membership scheme in the early days. Outside of chess, Bob's interests were bee-keeping, his allotment and his wife and family. He will be sadly missed by his colleagues and friends across Leicestershire chess.
