Dennis Hemsley
I've just heard the sad news that Dennis Hemsley, founder and organiser of the great Monarch Assurance Isle of Man tournaments, died last week. I don't have exact dates of birth and death but think he was in his early 80s. Dennis was an inspirational organiser, and a good friend, and he did a lot for British chess at a time when big tournaments were becoming thin on the ground. R.I.P.

Re: Dennis Hemsley
Sad news indeed, although not unexpected. Word reached us during this year's PokerStars IoM International that he was far from well.
Rest in peace, Dennis - and thank you for the coffee pot.

Re: Dennis Hemsley
Dennis Hemsley was the man who persuaded Monarch Assurance to support chess on the Island, and it has been very successful, bringing many British Grandmasters to the I.O.M.
