Mark Taimanov (1926-2016)
2016 claims another one

Yes RIP,
He and Boris got the dog house treatment, on their return. It could have been a lot worse for them, if Fischer had not trounced Bent Larsen 6-0 as well. So Mark T was in good company. Simply Fischer at his best.
I agree, at least piano music tonight.

It really is. He does seem to have lived a very worthwhile life.

Not many chess players are also fine pianists. The only one I can think of is Francis Rayner.
Re: Mark Taimanov (1926-2016)
I also agree excellent obit by Leonard Barden

Sheila Dines is a very good pianist, but seems to have given up chess. I got to grade 7 piano before giving it up.Barry Sandercock wrote:Not many chess players are also fine pianists. The only one I can think of is Francis Rayner.

Historically, there was Julius du Mont (also Barden's predecessor at the Graun IIRC)

Is it curious that The Times of London would publish a well known image of Leonid Stein and ascribe it to be Mark Taimanov.

I hear Tiger Hillarp-Persson plays fine piano.
And last week I was presented with a copy of a book in Spanish - ´Entre la EMOCIÓN y el TALENTO´ , by Antonío Igelsias Martin.
The subject was chessplayer and pianist, Erwin Nievergelt.
GM Soffer, whom I defeated in a wildly fantastical game a few years back in Tel Aviv, http://www.365chess.com/view_game.php?g=3800863 is something of a genius at chess and piano too.

Didn't Kamsky only take-up chess on the advice of his piano teacher, to help improve his concentration?
