I meant to write that you would have the opportunity in Dresden in February to express your views. A meeting of the working party on Senior chess will probbly take place there during the World Senior Team Championship 24 February to 4 March.
You have fallen into the trap of thinking that necessarily any thinking process happens when FIDE and the ECU act.

The ECF has grabbed the opportunity that the introduction of 50+ represents. But introducing that in no way required messing around with 60+. I had been asking in vain for somebody to be appointed responsible in FIDE for Senior Chess. The ECU, under Danailov, often went its own way.

In case anyone wants the links, the site, including live games is:

http://worldseniors2014.fide.com/

and the results etc can best be checked here:

I got paired against an IM from Jordan in round 1, and did a sort of queen sac, though I got rather a lot of stuff for her. The games are 2pm daily, UK time.

The clocks here go back 1 hour tonight.
Terry Chapman lost to Mark to have 1/2,
Ingrid drew to have 1.5/2.
In the 65+ Craig Pritchett, who used to live in London, beat Tim Harding, who is now IRE but was originally from England. Of the English 4 65+ I have 1.5, having drawn in 10 moves with white . John Robinson has 1/2, Ian Reynolds 0.5 having lost to Balashov and Joseph Rosewicz 0. Round 3 I play a GM Nikolai Pushkov with black.

correction... IRL is Ireland's FIDE code.

Interesting clash on board 1 today between Arkell and Nunn... I looked at the first 2 rounds and John's game yesterday looked effortless whilst Keiths.... going into a knight and pawn endgame and winning....trademark stuff but maybe not so clearcut.

I predict Keith will open with 1. d4 Nunn is an expert on both sides of the sicilian so it would be suicidal for Keith to play 1. e4
If Keith can survive to an endgame he might halve the point. Nunn appears very sharp tactically on what I have seen so far. The other interesting tactician in the 50+ is Eugeney Shesnikov. Looking forward to watching the games later. Good luck to those involved.

Agreed drawn in nine moves, so Keith and the Doc are clearly saving it for battles against the rest of the field.

Correct on the first move....

Err - not correct. I opened with 1.Nf3, just as I did vs Nigel at the Isle of Man ( where's the emoticon for 'sticks out tongue' ?)

Nunn (2.5) v Hebden (3) in rd 4.

Keith A has black against Zurab Sturua. Is that a repeat of a game from the European 50+ Seniors that Keith won?

I was wondering about putting together a Bermuda team, but have checked the regulations and see that all games start at 9.30am. I don't even need to ask how they feel about that!

Here we are starting at 4pm and even I regard that as somewhat late.
The German idea in Dresden is that people can be tourists in the afternoon. This has been a very populat format for the European Senior Team Championship. That event was held this year in Croatia in the afternoon. Some thought the smaller entry was because of the afternoon start. That could be true, but I think it was more to do with the rules. Change from 60+ to 65+ and requiring each team to have at least one 65+ player in it.

The idea of being a tourist in the morning doesn't work out as well.

I assume the thinking in Dresden is that we over 50 wrinklies like to be tucked up in bed by 10pm anyway, so having to set an early alarm isn't a problem. Or perhaps it's a deliberate attempt to discourage teams from weaker federations, who might go with the intention of enjoying themselves. Either way, they can stuff their stupid event.

You will have to wait until 2017 and bid for it to be held in Bermuda. Dresden again have the rights in 2016.
