I trust that the arbiters are aware that the player shown as unrated and bottom seed in the Open has an inactive FIDE rating in excess of 2150 and a previous BCF grade in the 190s.

It's particularly dangerous to have a player like that as bottom seed if they are using FIDE pairing rules since an odd number of players for the first round would trigger a whole point bye.

I think so. There were over 235 according to Andy. He will know the numbers! I was busy figuring out how to play chess (badly) again and dealing with some YCA stuff.

Many thanks to Brendan for his amazing photos of our event. I think that we have just about recovered from last weekend. Having never run an event of that size before it was certainly educational. We learned lots, met loads of great people (both new and old players) and importantly had a lot of fun.

We certainly couldn't have pulled it off without the help of many people, including our arbiter team (Alan Atkinson, Ihor Lewyk and John Grasham) and Chess & Bridge (who kindly provided the equipment).

75 juniors enjoyed an intro to Chess Session on the Friday morning, followed by 160 adults at the Congress over the weekend.

We will be back bigger and hopefully even better next year!
