I am looking for a chess bookstall provider for this event in Guildford from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 April. Chess & Bridge are not available. Any takers? Or can anyone suggest a potential provider?

The event has 160 entrants and is now full. Any further entries will be placed on a waiting list in case of late withdrawals. No payment is required at this stage.

Excellent news and well done James.

I note a certain entry in the Open

https://chess-results.com/tnr871973.aspx?lan=1

and their continued quest to enter the Guinness Book of Records for the FIDE rated game with the largest number of moves (currently 269)

Will the round one arbiter be packing a sleeping bag? :D

They have a unique move rate.
Rate of play

90 minutes plus 30 seconds a move from the start of the game. After both players have made 100 moves, the increment reduces to 10 seconds a move.

The games are still Fide rateable?

As far as I am aware, the minimum standard without rating restrictions is that 2 hours are allowed for 60 moves.

The move rate is just the usual 90 30 with a provision to stop players keeping the arbiters there all night as happened last year.

Sounds like a clever compromise then

The compromise was the outcome of a long email exchange between me and another player in the Open (not this player).

We have taken a closer look at the available space and decided that we can accommodate a few more players. As at 12.30pm on Tuesday 9 April, we have the following places available in each section:
• Open: 2
• Major: 1
• Minor: 11
Anyone interested in playing should complete an entry form and be prepared to pay the entry fee at short notice. See https://www.guildfordchessclub.com/acti ... GFC24.html.

Many thanks for the photos, John. Slight quibble: the captions (for me at least) appear in the header of the browser, the bit at the top of the screen, and this makes them not very usable/readable in the slideshow format (fine in the gallery format). Superb photos.

Thanks. You would need to contact SmugMug to ask them to make changes to its design for you. I agree that the captions are better in gallery format.

Years ago when I first started using SmugMug FM Steve Giddins thought that I had chosen its domain name for my own purposes: how we laughed!
