There were registration lists at the event, and they had registered much stronger players for the Open, so I assume they must have been told before hand that they were the only Open side, and that if they wanted to play then they would have to enter a Major team.
This did seem to weaken their lower rated teams, as I noticed some players moved up a team as the event progressed.

I wasn't there but I believe Sutton Coldfield's team entered in the Open happened to have an average grade below 175, so they played in the Major and came fifth!

I think that they adjusted their teams to make both eligible for the major once it was clear that they were the only entrant in the open.

Maybe time to target an audience that hasn't been hoovered up by the 4NCL and focus on the Major, Intermediary and minor sections?

No doubt Alex will bring forward proposals in due course......
