A player may claim a half-point bye in any one of the first four rounds,

Default Time: Players arriving 30 minutes after the start of the round shall lose by default. Repairing will then be at the discretion of the arbiter.

Rate of Play: All moves in 90 min with 30 sec increment per move from move 1.

More important is surely what the Colwyn bay congress is doing in Llandudno Looks a fine venue for it mind!

I'm assuming the WCU as they are bearing the cost.

More important is surely what the Colwyn bay congress is doing in Llandudno Looks a fine venue for it mind!

The usual venue became unavailable so the congress wasn't going to happen until the WCU helped out with an even better venue, it would have cost too much otherwise.

Looks like a nice time to combine chess with some walking (the 15 Welsh 3000 footers)!

Question is whether to do the walking first or after?

Or whether to take two weeks off & hope to get some dry & cloud free days?

Well after if you're trying to do the slightly mad all in one day thing Make it metric, call it 900m, and then you've got to climb Aran Fawddwy too.

Crying shame to just focus on just the 3k ones though, with so much lovely scenery about. Creigiau Gleision is a quite lovely place for instance. Even the great orme isn't entirely traduced by mans hand and some of the Llyn is fascinating (the hills there nearly all have massive prominence.).

The weather is, of course - as with all the mountains on the west coast of the UK - quite entirely random So if you want to climb the really big mountains and don't want to stick your head in a cloud/driving rain/gales, then a long stop would be recommended. Two weeks and a careful eye on MWIS/the met office mountain forecasts should give fair chances, if still no guarantees. Given the desire to dodge the main summer holidays, I'd maybe do that before the congress.

Not that I'd ever think of playing chess in North Wales in July....

Or during. Plenty of daylight that time of year. A half point bye on the Saturday afternoon should do it.
