e2e4 London Gatwick International 26-30 October 2016

Post by Sean Hewitt » Mon Mar 28, 2016 6:01 pm

e2e4 are looking to host a GM and an IM norm all play all (alongside other events) from 26-30 October 2016 at Crowne Plaza Gatwick.

In order to pay for this event, we need to raise £2500 to make the event happen. We think we've secured £1500 which leaves us £1000 to find. We've therefore set up a crowdfunding page https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/e2e4chess?utm_id=2 to help with this. If anyone out there would like and can afford to help, no donation would be too large nor too small.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Regards

Sean

I'm delighted to say that we have raised sufficient funds that we can now confirm the following events for October

A series of 10 player, 9 round all play alls including —

GM norm all play all (by application)

IM norm all play all (by application)

Challengers all play all - open to players rated over 1900. Players will be placed in groups of approximately equal strength. The winner of each challengers section will qualify for the next Masters event free of charge.

The Major - open to all players rated below 2000 (or graded below 165 ECF) who want to play 9 competitive FIDE rated games of chess in a friendly atmosphere with the opportunity to gain those all important rating points or obtain their first ever FIDE rating. Players will be placed in groups according to rating / grade so that all the players in a group are of a similar strength.

All of these FIDE rated all play alls are set in the same great hotel as the Gatwick weekend congress.

Website coming soon at http://www.e2e4.org.uk/gatwick/oct2016/index.htm

Entries are now being taken for the London Gatwick International. Thanks must go to The Friends of Chess, the English Chess Federation and those who donated through our JustGiving campaign for making this event possible.

The event has three (four) sections

The Masters will offer players the opportunity to play for GM and IM norm in two 10 play all play all sections. GM norm section is open to players rated 2200 or above. Players rated over 2050 can play the IM norm section, as can those who have qualified via the Challengers.

The Masters is limited to 20 players.

The Challengers is open to players rated over 1900, or graded above 150 ECF, or qualified from a previous Major. Players will be placed in groups of approximately equal strength. The winner of each challengers section will qualify for the next Masters event free of charge.

The Major is open to all players rated below 2000 (or graded below 165 ECF) who want to play 9 competitive FIDE rated games of chess in a friendly atmosphere with the opportunity to gain those all important rating points or obtain their first ever FIDE rating. Players will be placed in groups according to rating / grade so that all the players in a group are of a similar strength.

Please note that there is now just one place left in the GM norm section, for a non-English player rated over 2200.

Now one place left in the IM section. We have 6 English players, so the place is available to a non-ENG player only.

Latest list of entries here: http://www.e2e4.org.uk/entrants/gatwick_oct.htm Good to see that the norm events are now fully populated. More entries coming in for the subsidiary sections too. If you haven't tried an all-play-all chess competition with excellent playing conditions, you should consider doing so for a different experience to the more usual Swiss tournament. Also worth entering if you want to acquire a FIDE rating.
