Another great Championships heads towards its conclusion. The fortnight didn't quite make it up to two thousand entries that turned up and played. My (unofficial) figures show Bournemouth coming out third on the list (since 1989), just three behind the 1187 scored at both Torquay (2013) and University of Warwick (2015).

Championship 86
Juniors 358 (the highest since 1998 when there was also 358)
Seniors 121 (a record high, mainly because seniors are now 50+ - how ridiculous!)
Graded 136
Major Open 35 (one theory put to me is that the low turn-out is caused, in part, by the over 50s switching to the Senior events)
5-Day Opens 136
Weekenders 126
Rapid & Blitz 153
Total 1184

Roll on Lovely Llandudno 2017.

Probably a good time to say thanks to all who have given up their time to make the event a success

Hopefully Llandudno will be even better (I might even call in myself, though just to watch)

You might want to count people rather than entries. On an entries basis, Llandudno will be well down because a ten day format offers much less scope for one person to play multiple events.

Bournemouth apparently leads the list for people.
