"122 entries for the Manchester Summer Chess Federation Congress with 1 day to go, so looks like we should beat last year’s record total. Which is pretty good seeing as Mike Basman decided to put his big final of the chess challenge on the same weekend this year which cost us a few entries of the strong juniors Like Joe McPhillips, Andy Horton, Daniel Abbas, Kevin Ye."

entries so far include FM Adam Ashton and also Brandon Clarke

Good stuff :) Hope it goes well.

I do always feel slightly guilty about not entering this one - it being inside 5 minutes walking distance! - but chess in August just doesn't work as an idea for me.

Don't worry Martin, some players use it as a warm up for the new season, some have never stopped playing, and the rest of us are enjoying the summer! Though I do gather it will be raining tomorrow and Saturday, so that may make players feel less bothered about being indoors
