The venue is the one used by Castle Chess for their Harrogate congress which I understand is moving from September to May as of next year. It has wider fame for being the hotel Agatha Christie was found in after her famous disappearance. I'm looking forward to it already.

Formerly known as the Swan Hydro.

Fingers crossed that we don't have any players missing for eleven days.

Just checked the list of entries. Looks like the congress is starting to fill up and fingers crossed should get the turnout Mike, Alex and Lara deserve.

Not many from Harrogate which is a bit disappointing. I'll probably do another mail shot once Christmas is out of the way.

We're actually up to 67 in total, which isn't too bad with over two weeks still to go. :D

The final entry should therefore exceed 100. The interesting point is the low entry in the Open and the high entry in the Minor - exactly the opposite to the 11th Congress.

...... a shape not dissimilar to the Shropshire Congress, also on the same weekend (although of course their numbers are higher).

I confess to finding it a little difficult to find consistent trends in either overall numbers or in numbers per section over our first twelve congresses!

PS Steve R has of course already got quite a few of the congress circuit GMs and IMs. Respect!

Many thanks to all the great supporters of the 4NCL congress circuit.

We're still awaiting a few last results; including the game that will decide whether the Open is a three or four way tie (EDIT - a four way tie it is). However I think I can say that the event has been a big success and hopefully we will be able to enjoy a new year congress in Harrogate for some time to come. A big thank you to Mike, Lara, Alex and Jennifer for making everything possible.

For those who enjoyed playing at the Old Swan Hotel, chess will return there for the Castle Chess congress on 5-7th May.

Harrogate is a beautiful town, and The Old Swan an excellent venue. Highly recommended to anyone considering attending the next version..

I always reckon that Harrogate is for people who think York is too industrial :)

Fine York result from Joel Wagg to get joint winner in the major. Using FIDE ratings for that does seem to tend to produce a few sharks....
