Invitation to the 112th Richmond Rapidplay

The 112th Richmond Rapidplay will take place at Orleans Park School, Twickenham, on Sunday, 19th February. We will be delighted to see you there!

Sections and Grading Limits

As usual there are three sections, Open, U160 and U120. The organisers reserve the right to move a player into a higher tournament section.

Playing Conditions

25 minutes per player per game, with the addition of 5 seconds a move throughout. All games will be sent for FIDE rapid rating and ECF rapidplay grading. Computerised Swiss system pairings, made by SwissMaster for Windows 5.6. No discussion will be entered into concerning the pairings. All decisions of the arbiters are binding.

Registration from 09:15, play starts at 10:00.

Prizes
  • OPEN 1. £100; 2. £50; Grading (U180) £35
  • U160 1. £100; 2. £50; Grading (U135) £35
  • U120 1. £100; 2. £50; Grading (U100) £35
  • Best Richmond Junior £35
Prize money for tied players is shared, not split by tie-break. Prizes are guaranteed. No player can win more than one prize. Prizes based on tournament performance can only be awarded to players who have scored at some point during the tournament.

Entries

All entries must be accompanied by the correct entry fee, which is £25, with a £7.50 discount to members of Richmond Junior Chess Club or Fulham Junior Chess Club, or one of their affiliated schools, and a £5 discount to other juniors. The organisers reserve the right to refuse any entry. All players must be members of the English Chess Federation, at Silver level or better. If you are not a member then, at the discretion of the organisers, an £8 surcharge is payable, to cover the ECF grading charge.

Space is limited to 90 entries, so early entry is advised. Entries by Wednesday, 15th February, please. Late entries may be accepted, but will incur a late entry fee of £5. Entries on the day will incur a £10 surcharge.

A player may withdraw at any point up to the closing of normal entries on 18th January, subject to a £5 administration fee. Withdrawal subsequent to this forfeits the full entry fee.

Venue, Transport & Accommodation

Orleans Park School, Richmond Road, Twickenham TW1 3BB. There is some limited parking is available on-site. Twickenham Station is 10 minute’s walk from the venue, St. Margaret’s Station is 15 minutes away. A number of buses stop right outside (the stop is called "Orleans Park School"), and a great number stop in Twickenham town centre, close by. The Transport for London Journey Planner should be able to help: https://tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey/. If anyone needs hotel accommodation, there is a Travelodge adjacent to Twickenham Station.

Catering
Some basic catering will be provided on-site from 12:00 until 14:00, but if this should prove inadequate to your needs, the shops are a mere 5 minutes walk back into the town centre.
