Exactly that's all I meant...Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 12:33 amThe upgrade would be to get the match captains to do it as soon as they had phone or computer access after their personal games had finished.Andrew Zigmond wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 12:09 amTo answer the question raised - I am the Yorkshire League controller, results are submitted to me by captains and I enter them on LMS as quickly as it is practical for me to do so.
Well done to all those who do it quickly!

And thanks to everyone who does things for chess for free- I gave free promo today...
When I do play in Yorks league it will only be after doing hours of training (myself for free) before the match.

It can be a little awkward to input new players and match them up. More information is usually needed. I was very impressed with the Dewsbury boards 2 and 6. Considering they are new as well.Mark Howitt wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 4:57 amInteresting to see some New Players called New Player playing

Re: 2023/2024 Season
Interesting. Anyway, I may as well post the results here too....
An exceptionally close round in the Woodhouse.
York A managed the largest win of the set of matches with a 5-3 win away vs Bradford. Leeds vs Calderdale was 4.5 - 3.5 to Leeds. Harrogate - Ilkley and York B - Huddersfield were draws. York B - Huddersfield is an amusing scorecard with a 4-0/0-4 split from top to bottom.
The mid table is quite remarkably tight so far - Leeds, York B and Calderdale in 3rd= all have 8.5/16 game points, Hull have 8, Harrogate and Ilkley 7.5/16 and Huddersfield 7/16. Bradford a bit behind but they won't be worried - historically at least anything you get vs York/Sheffield A has had to be viewed as a bonus.
The big title news was Hull drawing their second consecutive match against Sheffield, Sheffield's first dropped points for a while! Well done
Unlucky for Sheffield to have to deal with the journey to Hull (the longest one in the league?) and the clash with the European club cup at the same time. I'd still have them as non trivial favourites for the league.
We'll know a fair bit more after the next round - Hull and York are playing in York. Another draw has to rate as far from improbable Sheffield have Calderdale at home (never easy), the other matches could all be very close.
Nice to see York D's junior mob get a win in the IMBrown.

I had to TURN DOWN Hudds offer to play... had to steward...
I would take 4-4 all day long against York B...
Who knows who I'll play for this season

Away from home I would
Overall if Hudds could get their best team out bottom 4 boards wouldn't be playing (in terms of playing strength).

Exactly Steve. I'm enrolling new players into the league every round (pre pandemic it was once in a blue moon) and sometimes I need more information if I'm trying to decipher an unusual name from someone's handwriting or the name is a common one and might belong to an existing player.Stephen Westmoreland wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 7:48 amIt can be a little awkward to input new players and match them up. Re: 2023/2024 Season
Roger, I am not exactly sure what you mean by 'The upgrade'. If you mean a software upgrade, then the ECF LMS software already allows other individuals to enter results as they happen, and we make use of this facility when we can. It doesn't have to be the team captain either, it can be someone who stands in if the captain is unavailable. Incidentally, the match result isn't finalised until the opposition captain verifies the result.Andrew Zigmond wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 12:54 amSome leagues do that but my personal choice is to imput the results myself so I can be sure the right information is being entered.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 12:33 amThe upgrade would be to get the match captains to do it as soon as they had phone or computer access after their personal games had finished.Andrew Zigmond wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 12:09 amTo answer the question raised - I am the Yorkshire League controller, results are submitted to me by captains and I enter them on LMS as quickly as it is practical for me to do so.
Ten years ago when the Yorkshire Chess website was at its peak the guys who ran it used to publish up to the minute results, often before I'd even seen them. So there is no reason why somebody desperate to get results as soon as possible couldn't organise something similar.
The software allows you to operate it they way you wish, our league controller is happy to reduce his workload, others may take a different approach.
If you have appropriate access, I don't think you need to add 'new player', then change it afterwards. I think you can do this before the match by adding the new player to your club list in advance. But again, it is an option and you can choose which way you wish to operate.
It really is a very good system.

The suggestion as no more than if a League wanted to publish its results faster, that it had to move to the system of allowing match captains to directly input results rather than indirectly through a third party. Yorkshire have however indicated they wish to retain a system of centralised input.David Clayton wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 6:22 pmThe software allows you to operate it they way you wish, our league controller is happy to reduce his workload, others may take a different approach.
I'm aware that the LMS allows direct input by match captains.
What is the exact update cycle though of the rating system? There was a local rapidplay tournament on Saturday whose results are already in the rating system, whilst results of the season's first league match on Thursday, input shortly after midnight to the ECF LMS aren't yet.

Re: 2023/2024 Season
The last league run was 28 September, it's done weekly from memory
In the Manchester League, we let captains enter results, but each one is checked by our Records & Registrations Secretary; as players have to be registered in advance, though, we don't let clubs enter players onto the LMS Player list
The LMS is very good, it just takes a bit of time to get used to

Regardless, Andrew does a fantastic volunteer job for the YCA and is a lovely chap as well. Chess is a game of patience, so non league players can wait.
