Link and name (Felix Jose Ynojosa)to help give some context:

http://chess-results.com/tnr58157.aspx? ... =1&flag=30

World Youth Chess Championship - U 16 Open, 18-16/11/2011

FIDE rating card:

http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?event=3900258

Does anyone know of a way to ascertain the previous registration history of a player?

(Looking at the results in his FIDE history, he was ENG-registered in January 2011 and VEN-registered by June 2011 - this was mentioned at the time somewhere on this forum, I believe, such as here back in July: http://www.ecforum.org.uk/viewtopic.php ... =15#p66535).

He put in a request to transfer back in 2011, having returned (with his family) to Venezeula in August/September 2010. Whilst I was sorry to see him go I fully understood his decision and wish him well for the future.

Did he not play for England in the World Youth in October 2010 in Greece?

Yes, that's right. He'd qualified in the trial earlier in the year.

Smashing player!

Sorry to see him leave the UK!

England have a few excellent players at that age group.

Playing in English tournaments year in year out.

There was a nice moment in a Bristol v Barbican 2 match (December 2008) when Felix beat his 190 odd opponent in less than two hours with Black. I caught the eye of his rather staggered opponent, as he was resetting the pieces, and we both had to fight the temptation to laugh out loud.

I'm hoping I won't have to face Felix in the U16s. I remember playing him 2 years ago and very nearly drawing with him before ruining an easily drawn K+P ending...

You're on the ball Thomas. I only spotted that today.

Think it's better as the previous schedule with 2 double round days and no rest day was a bit intense.

Dare I suggest, me thinks, that FIDE messed up the booking in the first place?

That wouldn't surprise me in the slightest (yes we did just go there)

It might have been the local organisers, but the venue was moved several hundred (or thousand?) miles to a more remote location away from international air routes. As a consequence, a day was lost at each end of the event, so the days potentially available for play reduced from eleven to nine.

Changing schedule 16 days before play starts is not ideal and obviously there has been a mess up somewhere.

I think the original plan was to hold it in hotels near to probably the most famous beach in the World. The Copacabana!
That was always going to cost an absolute fortune to stage and The World Youth Chess Championships is an event of
enough prestige to merit such a location. I guess though the economics beat the organisers.
Brazil is big enough and beautiful enough for them to find another outstanding venue and the move to making it a 9
round tournament is for the best for all. Whilst youngsters can give there all to represent their country and themselves in
the best way possible they will also have some time to have some fun and take in the atmosphere of being in an amazing
vibrant developing country.
Good luck to all participating and hoping that the home federations can find the funding to send more representatives
at each age group to these events in future years.
One of the most noticeable things about Brazil is just how young a country it is with half the population aged under 25.
They celebrate youth and promote their youngsters to do well in all sports. I expect the event to be absolutely buzzing!
