Championship
Manchester GS beat RGS Guildford 5 - 1
Reading School beat Hampton 3.5 - 2.5
If Manchester win the final it will be the first time a school has won the National Championship 4 years running.
If Reading win they will be the first state school to win since Methodist College, Belfast in 1995
Plate
QE Barnet beat Newcastle under Lyme School 6 - 0
Wilson's beat Torquay Grammar School 5 - 1
QE Barnet were plate runners up in 2013, Wilson's plate runners up in 2012.
I will be tweeting scores tomorrow on @EcfSchools

Re: U19 Open- National Schools Championship
Congratulations to Reading School beat Manchester Grammar 3 -3 (they won on age handicap, but would have won on board count otherwise).
RGS Guildford beat Hampton 4.5 - 1.5 for third place
Wilson's beat QE Barnet 4 - 2 to win the plate.
Torquay Boys GS beat Newcastle under Lyme School 5.5 - 0.5 for third place.
Reading School are the first English state school to win the tournament in almost 30 years
This is the first time that state schools have won both the National Championships and the plate in the same year.

Congratulations to the winners, but a continued great performance by MGS and credit to the (mainly 3Cs) coaching they receive

Similarly Reading have benefited from the active Berkshire Junior Chess Association. School chess is more likely to thrive where there is external support for enthusiastic players.Mick Norris wrote:Congratulations to the winners, but a continued great performance by MGS and credit to the (mainly 3Cs) coaching they receive
