This Championship starts today. We have a large group competing, first round has been delayed. Does any one have any information?
All the very best to the England Team.

The oficial website is:- http://www.worldyouth2013.com. There is a huge entry (almost 2,000), suspect problem is down to checking who is actually there and then getting them to the right place.
Cannot do Twitter & Facebook, anything from that source?

The first round started approximately three hours late.

A mixed experience so far regarding accommodation and conditions.

I'm sure official updates will appear at the ECF website in due course, at least a couple of people have been deputed to provide them.

FIDE won't use the sensible approach of British organisers to pair on the basis of known entries and have a secondary pairing of late entrants and opponents with no-shows. But is three hours a record delay?

The dates are 18th to 28th - Peter, if you are around you could change the details in the thread title. Christmas in the UAE (for those that celebrate it) sounds fun! Best of luck to all those playing. England players are listed here:

There have also been numerous mix ups with incorrect FIDE IDs being used. An English under 16 rated just under 2000 found he was playing under the alias of an Indian 1300 born in 1987 :?

Hi Christopher, in my haste I forgot to say the 8 - 18 were age groups.

Hmm, just noticed that according to the official website three of my four players played with the wrong colour. Chess-results have the pairings with the colours that were actually used.

The England delegation numbers 24 players and 6 coaches. The event is a FIDE rated 11-round standard play tournament for U8s through to U18s.

The pairings should be up via the event website (see below) and chess-results.com - please note UAE are 4 hours ahead of UK.

We'll need luck trying to interpret the pairings as one of my players has a different colour on the official site compared to chess-results whilst two don't even appear in the pairings on the official site :?

After speaking with the organisers, pairings on chessresults are correct - hopefully the official website will get them right at some point!

The Welsh delegation had a tough start, with one of our players playing the U8 World Champion from last year. We scored 1.5/15, however we were outgraded by many points on all boards.
Our win came from Karanvir who, as a 1300 FIDE player, beat a 1980 convincingly. Stephanie du Toit scored us our draw.

Here's hoping to a more organised and successful day today.

I struggle to understand how something so simple could go even slightly wrong? I can understand if pairings were changed at the last minute, but not if the web manager just decided to tweak things...
Once the pairings have been finalised, simply paste them onto the website (or whatever it is that is done).
Anyway Good Luck to all involved!
