Certificate of Merit stock which is written off
I have some leftover Certificate of Merit kit that I want to distribute among the English junior chess community, free. Booklets One and Two are a brief course in beginners chess and are nicely designed. There is a DVD and a book on chess openings. Would make excellent prizes or could even equip a school or junior chess club with very useful material. Will certainly help coaches at primary school level. Message me if you want some. First come, first served and please pick up next weekend at the South of England Championships at Yateley Manor. I already have 50 sets earmarked for dispersal there.
I would prefer to distribute in batches of 25 to share it out
Thanks.

This seems to have passed me by. Is the Certificate of Merit no longer?

I did archive off that section due to inactivity as I do sometimes but have no knowledge of the actual state of play.Nick Thomas wrote:This seems to have passed me by. Is the Certificate of Merit no longer?

Peter Purland gave me some of this stuff yesterday too. I didn't argue but I did wonder why.

To date 1110+ students have registered to use the on-line system.
More than 3,000 tests/exams have been taken.
The most popular test/exam type to date has been the FIDE Arbiter One test (it was and will be FREE).
CoM will be relaunched in 2014 having been freshened up AND the cost of credits will be lowered from £5 each to FREE.
Following this we will contact all 8,000 regsistered schools/colleges etc and promote the tests.
One of the main barriers to take-up by schools has been the logistics of making payments.
I want to remove this and promote CoM as a learning tool (by repeat use).

The CoM still exists as a learning tool, but all the stuff that was supposed to go into schools to accompany the free sets cannot be sold, so we are giving it away rather than let it gather dust in the ECF office.
It's still useful, so why not get it out into the junior community?

Good idea. Sadly I don't think it's worth my while to travel to Yateley Manor to pick it up.
