Edmund Player (of England) also playing in this event.
Alan Merry and Isaac Sanders both won in round 1 and were paired with 2540-rated GMs in round 2.

Re: Riga Open 2015
Isn't Black just positionally busted now? (After 22...gxf6) Weak and/or backwards pawns will eventually fall. Let's hope Alan can finish off from here.

Re: Riga Open 2015
The chess24 engine gives Alan's IM opponent Maksim Chigaev a slight (half pawn) advantage at move 13.Nf3.
Anyone here have any views on that position?

Re: Riga Open 2015
At move 18, Alan's position looks quite reasonable. Stockfish just gives white .32 advantage.

Re: Riga Open 2015
Alan is slightly ahead on the clock as well. Looks promising for a solid draw, or more if his opponent over-presses.
EDIT: Though the engine doesn't like Alan's 21...d5.

Re: Riga Open 2015
Alan lost quite quickly after that move. Isaac Sanders won, as did Edmund Player. A good result from Adam C. Taylor who had White and drew with a 2397-rated IM (Vitaly Meribanov). Some results still to come in, so no round 4 draw yet.
