Oops, I looked only at the general principle and not the specific case, should have known better. I still claim that the ECF system would at least have tried to find a better pairing before resorting to this one!

I'm puzzled, Nick, as to how that would work exactly?
Do you mean that because the "E" in "ECF" stands for "English" some way would have been found to give preferential treatment to the English player?

Look, Ezra is where he is in the pairings because in 5 games his only point has come from beating a player rated more than 600 points lower than him and includes 2 losses to players rated 150-200 points lower. Chess-results.com thinks he is already losing almost 40 rating points from just 5 games!
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

No, it's a purely technical difference in the way floats are treated. I'm not an expert, but In broad terms the FIDE system looks for the strongest opponent for a downfloat, the ECF system goes to the median.

There are ten players in the combined groups with 1.5 or 1 point. I do not find it ideal that the two highest rated are playing each other.

Another tough day for the English duo, round 6 losses leaves Amy on 2 and Ezra on 1.

Our players do not get as much support as other Countries give. Also our juniors do not play as many match games.I remember at the eurpeans talking to some spanish parents who would drive into other countries to play chess if no match games where on in spain. An india female player told me her team was booked into a hotel in india for a month to get coaching from top class grandmasters and then play training games. Russian juniors have Gazprom sponsoring them i took some film of the tee shirts the players had on and did manger to speak to one of the russian coaches who told me how much this had helped to pay for various things to help improve the russian juniors He agreed with me that our players have real talent but not enough support from the ECF of course some Individuals in the chess world do try and help but it is just not enough to make a real difference

Would members of the ECf want more money spent on juniors? i doubt it

Any points our players get are a bonus both of them are a long way from home so i wish them the very best of luck for the rest of the event

Well must walk the dog now

A convincing win for Ezra today leaving him on 2.5/8 but a tough defeat for Amy after outplaying her opponent for the first 30 moves. She remains on 2.

A convincing win for Amy today to leave her on 3/9 whilst Ezra lost a crazy game that was hard to calculate but seemed at least promising for him at various stages until a miscalculation at the end. He remains on 2.5.

Mick,
I cannot access the game on the site given. Can you let me know the players so that I might be able to find it elsewhere?

The game (lightly annotated by Dennis Monokroussos) in the link is -

Antipov, Mikhail [2538] 1-0 Van Foreest, Jorden [2541] C54

FIDE World Junior Championship - Open (8.3) 10.09.2015

Unfortunately it does not seem to be in the Chessbase News report for the event -

http://en.chessbase.com/post/wjcc-2015- ... malik-lead

There are, however, other interesting games and many photos in the above.

Here's the game

White to play and win. Easy to find if you know there's something there, but this final coup had to be spotted from some way back.
