Yes best of luck to Amy Hoare and Ezra Kirk both of them should learn a lot from this event. I remember Ezra and his dad before all of them went off to France. His dad often give me words of encouragement about Peter and his chess.LawrenceCooper wrote:All the very best to Amy Hoare and Ezra Kirk a long way from home about to embark on a daunting 13 round schedule:

Why does the Junior director not post on here about our players ? or is it not allowed by the ECF?
when you are successful many losers bark at you.

Two losses with Black, against 2296 & 2265 WFMs, and the second included a difficult-to-spot repetition of position -
So near, but just out of sight.

A win for Amy and a loss for Ezra today so both on 1/3.

Another win for Amy to reach 2/4 but Ezra lost and so is on 1/4. Nine rounds to go though so plenty of time to recover.

Round 5 proved to be a tough day with both Amy and Ezra losing. Amy is on 2/5 and Ezra remains on 1. Two rounds to go before the rest day and a further six after that.

I find it slightly terrifying that a player graded ECF 223 should be on 1/5.

I'm a bit taken aback to see he now plays a 2400 IM in round 6Mike Truran wrote:I find it slightly terrifying that a player graded ECF 223 should be on 1/5.

I was severely criticised here for saying that FIDE Swiss pairings should be avoided where possible, but I think this is a good example of why.LawrenceCooper wrote: I'm a bit taken aback to see he now plays a 2400 IM in round 6

What would the ECF pairing be? And why would it be better?
Let's not overlook the fact that the 2300/2400 players who have ended up at the wrong end of the pairings have done so by playing badly.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Re: World Junior 2015
The ECF pairing would actually be the same, coincidentally. Lootens has to be median-flipped into the bottom half to play Dias, as O'Mahoney and Sabirov have already played Dias. That leaves Kirk and Isaev as the only white-seeking top-half players, and Isaev has already played Johansson.

It just shows the strength of the tournament and the standard that younger English players have to reach in order to be world competitive.IM Jack Rudd wrote:The ECF pairing would actually be the same, coincidentally.

Re: World Junior 2015
In general, a lot of pairing systems will look a bit wonky when applied to long tournaments with small score-groups.
